“We can say that today there is no more issue about the WannaCry, not just in Indonesia but across the globe as well,” he said in Jakarta, Wednesday, during the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Satellite Communications System International Conference (APSAT) 2017.

The minister said the virus has had no significant effect in Indonesia thanks to the country’s swift precaution method of disconnecting the internet and making backup copies of their files.

“We know that Dharmais Hospital was also attacked, but not everything there is affected. There’s the Samsat in Sulawesi as well as plantation and manufacturing companies, but not all of their computers were affected,” he said.

He believes no one paid the ransom demanded by the cyber attackers, which is worth around US$300, to restore their files.

The WannaCrypt0r 2.0 ransomware uses Windows’ security hole. An updated patch was released by Microsoft in March.

Many users, however, did not update their computers, allowing the ransomware to spread globally in a very short time.
